Human rights group, Amnesty International, has condemned the latest armed attack on Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, where at least five persons were killed and dozens of women and girls abducted.
The organisation said the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, November 8, 2025, left over 40 people critically injured from gunshot wounds, while the assailants looted shops and destroyed property.
“Amnesty International strongly condemns the early hours of Saturday, 8 November 2025, attack by gunmen on Bargaja village in Isa LGA of Sokoto State, in which at least five persons were killed and dozens of women and girls abducted,” the group said in a statement on Sunday.
The rights watchdog described the incident as another indication of the Federal Government’s failure to protect its citizens, amid the worsening wave of insecurity in the North-West region.
“Apart from showing the authorities’ utter failure to protect lives, these attacks deprive people of their right to life, while survivors are left without means of livelihood,” Amnesty added.
The organisation urged the Nigerian authorities to act decisively, lamenting that repeated promises to end killings and abductions have not produced tangible results.
“The Government of Nigeria must move swiftly to match its words with concrete and serious action to guarantee the human rights of everyone in the country if it is to be taken seriously on its oft-repeated commitment to stop the killings, violence, abductions and other human rights violations across several parts of the country,” Amnesty stated.
