The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting educational development in his constituency.
Abubakar, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, made the pledge at the maiden matriculation ceremony of the Flagship College of Nursing Sciences, Bichi, on Monday.
He said that education remains a key pillar of his foundation’s social intervention programmes, adding that the foundation had continued to support schools and students across the constituency.
“Our Education Committee is working tirelessly to ensure that our teeming youths are given opportunities to excel. In line with our ‘Bichi First’ guiding principle, we will not rest until all eligible sons and daughters of Bichi Federal Constituency have access to formal education and are empowered to live a decent life,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that his foundation had been employing and paying teachers to fill gaps in primary and secondary schools in the constituency, as well as providing learning materials and stipends to students to ease the burden on parents.
He said the foundation’s scholarship scheme covered students in colleges, polytechnics, and universities across the country, while postgraduate students were also being sponsored abroad for advanced studies and international exposure.
Abubakar advised the matriculating students to be dedicated to their studies, describing nursing as a noble profession that demands compassion, discipline, and a strong commitment to service.
“In the rural areas, your services are greatly needed. So, please put in your best effort to acquire the right skills to help reduce infant and maternal mortality and address the shortage of skilled health workers in our communities,” he urged.
He assured the students that he would continue to collaborate with educational institutions to ensure quality learning and professional training.
Abubakar commended the management of the college and lauded its founder, Engr. Dr. Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, for establishing what he described as a “visionary and impactful institution.”
“The establishment of this college is a testament to the power of vision and determination of the founding fathers and promoters. I charge the management and staff to provide students with the best possible education and training that will make the institution a model of excellence in nursing education,” he said.
He congratulated the matriculating students and wished them success in their academic pursuits.
