The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano State, on Thursday, June 15, 2017, announced the expulsion of the embattled member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities.
Chairman of the local chapter, Alhaji Sani Kanti Ranka, disclosed the decision during a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
He said the action followed findings of a disciplinary committee which investigated Jibrin’s conduct and recommended his expulsion for acts considered detrimental to the integrity of the party.
According to Ranka, the lawmaker was found guilty of “promoting disunity within the party, showing disrespect to constituted authorities—particularly President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje—and engaging in acts of betrayal and sabotage against the Ganduje-led administration in Kano State.”
The expulsion came amid reports of Governor Ganduje’s attempt to reconcile Jibrin with the party’s leadership and the House of Representatives.
Jibrin had earlier been suspended by the House in 2016 for 180 legislative days after being indicted by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for misconduct over allegations of budget padding.
