A group of residents in Kano has asked a magistrates’ court to issue a warrant for the arrest of the Kano State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Abbas, on allegations of incitement, defamation and breach of public peace.
The request was filed ex parte by ten residents of the Fagge community, who said they acted on behalf of “other peace-loving members of the community.” The application seeks an order directing the Commissioner of Police to arrest and investigate Abbas for alleged violations of several provisions of the Kano State Penal Code.
In the motion, the complainants asked the court to compel police to investigate offences including intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace, exciting hatred between classes, defamation, inciting disturbance and offences against public peace. The alleged violations relate to Sections 399, 417, 391–393, 114 and 100 of the Penal Code.
In a supporting statement, the residents said they brought the case to “defend the dignity and reputation of the Fagge community,” adding that the actions attributed to Abbas had the potential to “disturb public peace and create unnecessary tension.”
“We are praying the court to intervene because the statements made by the defendant have caused serious concern among residents,” they said. “His actions amount to intentional insult against the people and community of Fagge, and they risk provoking a breach of the peace.”
The residents also asked the court, in the alternative, to issue criminal summons requiring Abbas to appear and answer the direct criminal complaint. “Our community cannot ignore actions capable of exciting hatred between classes,” they added.
The application, dated Nov. 10, 2025, was filed by a team of lawyers led by A.A. Hikima, with H.S. Bello, E.O. Ekaun, Ridwan Yunusa, Z.A. Sabuwa, Aliyu Kabiru, Suleiman Naima, N.A. Abdulmumeen and Khadija Abba also listed as counsel.
The court is expected to consider the motion at its next sitting.
