Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said on Friday that his administration is finalising plans to present the state’s first-ever ₦1 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year, a record figure for any northern Nigerian state.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf disclosed the development while opening a special session of the State Executive Council convened to review the 2026 budget estimates ahead of its presentation to the Kano State House of Assembly next week.
He said the unprecedented budget size reflects his government’s ambition to consolidate ongoing infrastructure expansion, urban renewal projects and broader socio-economic development.
“Our administration has strengthened internal revenue mechanisms and sealed leakages, which now allows us to plan boldly for transformative projects in 2026,” Yusuf said, attributing the expanded budget to improvements in internally generated revenue and tighter financial controls.
The governor said the proposed spending plan prioritises housing, agriculture, education, healthcare and support for small and medium enterprises, sectors he described as central to stimulating economic growth and creating sustainable livelihoods in the state.
Once finalised, the proposal will be forwarded to lawmakers for consideration and approval.
Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and fiscal discipline, saying his administration would ensure all sectors receive adequate support to deliver essential services to residents.
