The Federal Government has expressed concern over the abduction of female students from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, stated this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
Idris said the government was deeply worried about the incident and stood in solidarity with the families of the abducted students.
“The Federal Government expresses deep concern and solidarity with the families of the female students abducted… We share in their pain and are firmly committed to bringing the girls home safely,” he said.
He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had reaffirmed his commitment to the safety of all Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren in vulnerable areas.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has reiterated that protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State,” Idris said.
The minister condemned the attack, describing it as reprehensible, and pledged that those responsible would be arrested and prosecuted.
“The government condemns the reprehensible attack on innocent students and the killing of school officials who were carrying out their noble duty,” he added.
Idris said the nation’s security and intelligence agencies had been directed to intensify efforts to rescue the students.
“Our security and intelligence agencies have been given clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” he said.
He noted that improving the country’s security architecture remained a top priority of the Tinubu administration, adding that the government was recalibrating military, policing, and intelligence operations to better prevent and respond to threats.
He further said Nigeria was strengthening cooperation with neighbouring countries and regional organisations to tackle cross-border crimes.
“Nigeria is also reinforcing cooperation with regional partners through ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure our borders and disrupt terrorist and criminal networks,” he said.
Idris urged the public to remain calm and continue supporting the government’s efforts to address the situation.
