Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday dismissed a circular directing all public schools in Abuja to close by Friday, describing the notice as false and unauthorized.
Wike also suspended the Mandate Secretary for Education, Danlami Hayyo, over the matter, his media aide Lere Olayinka said in a statement.
According to the statement, Acting Head of Service Nancy Sabanti Nathan has been instructed to begin disciplinary action against the Director of School Services, Aishatu Sani-Alhassan, who allegedly issued the circular in violation of civil service procedures.
The FCT Administration urged parents, students and school authorities to ignore the rumoured shutdown, saying the approved academic calendar remains unchanged.
It added that security measures, including Operation Sweep and other initiatives, had been reinforced to ensure safety across the capital.
