Panic gripped the main gate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, on Tuesday when several rounds of ammunition reportedly fell from a moving passenger bus along the Zaria–Katsina highway.
According to a video shared on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism publication, the incident occurred directly in front of the university, causing a brief commotion among pedestrians and motorists.
An eyewitness, identified simply as Musa, told the publication that the ammunition fell from a commercial vehicle heading towards Katsina.
“We suddenly saw the bullets drop from the bus as it sped past the gate. Before people could understand what happened, the vehicle had already disappeared,” he said.
Musa added that some bystanders quickly collected the ammunition and alerted security operatives stationed in the area.

Another student, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the incident as “strange and frightening,” noting fears that the ammunition could be linked to supplies meant for bandits operating in parts of Kaduna and Katsina.
Zagazola Makama reported that security personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the ammunition, ensuring the safety of the area.
