Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Friday confirmed that he had received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and expressed his readiness to honour it.
Malami made the disclosure in a post on his Facebook page, stating that he remained committed to the principles of accountability and transparency in public service.
“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.
He explained that his decision to publicly announce the invitation was in line with his long-standing advocacy for openness in governance.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service — principles that I both advocate and champion,” he added, noting that he would keep the public updated as developments unfold.
Malami served as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. His tenure covered several high-profile legal matters, including asset recovery, anti-corruption initiatives and major international arbitration disputes.
He also faced public scrutiny in the latter years of his service over issues relating to asset declarations, contract processes and the management of recovered funds — allegations he repeatedly denied.
As at the time of filing this report, the EFCC had yet to provide details on the nature of the invitation extended to the former minister.
