The immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has faulted the Kano State Government over its call for his arrest, describing the move as baseless and a sign of desperation.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed the allegation that he made comments relating to the establishment of a militia group, saying the claim was “reckless, unfounded and a clear display of incompetence” by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Ganduje said the state government’s action reflected misplaced priorities at a time communities in the state were grappling with rising security challenges.
“It is deeply unfortunate that instead of confronting the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows in an attempt to conceal his failures,” he said.
The former governor listed Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and other affected communities as areas currently experiencing security concerns, alleging that the governor had neither visited nor shown empathy toward victims of recent attacks.
Ganduje said he had never been associated with violence or any act capable of undermining peace in the state, adding that his eight-year tenure was marked by stability and national recognition for maintaining peace and protecting lives.
According to Olofu, the contrast between Ganduje’s record and what he described as the Yusuf administration’s “lack of direction” was evident in the government’s responses to key issues.
He urged Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional responsibility of securing the state instead of resorting to what he called political theatrics.
“Leadership is demonstrated through purposeful action, responsibility and compassion, not by holding press conferences and issuing frivolous statements aimed at diverting public attention,” Ganduje added.
