The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has suspended its Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, over allegations of administrative infractions and financial misappropriation.
The decision was announced in a communiqué issued after the council’s second congress held on 29 November in Kano.
The communiqué, signed by the Council Chairman, Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, and the Acting Secretary, Hauwa Suleiman Zaharaddeen, stated that the suspension became necessary to ensure accountability and protect the ethical standards of the union.
According to the communiqué, members of the congress unanimously endorsed the suspension.
“The council unanimously resolved to suspend the Secretary of the Kano State Council, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, to pave the way for an investigation into the allegations levelled against him, including administrative breaches and financial misappropriation, among others,” it stated.
It added that the suspension would remain in effect “pending the outcome of the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee’s report.”
The communiqué stressed that the action was not punitive but was intended to guarantee fairness and transparency in handling the allegations.
