Troops Rescue Seven Kidnap Victims in Kano Night Raid

Troops of Operation MESA under the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued seven kidnapped victims during a late-night operation in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Babatunde Zubairu.

Zubairu said the operation was conducted at about 11 p.m. on Nov. 29, following a distress call from Yankamaye Cikin Gari village.

He said the troops, supported by personnel of the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police, made contact with the bandits and successfully freed seven abducted persons.

According to him, the bandits had, however, killed a 60-year-old woman before the arrival of the troops.

“After the initial engagement, the troops pursued the fleeing bandits along their withdrawal route towards Rimaye, exchanging fire and preventing further harm to the victims,” he said.

Zubairu said four other kidnapped persons were still missing, while the bandits were believed to have escaped towards Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

He said security forces were intensifying efforts to track down the suspects.

The spokesman added that the Commander, 3 Brigade, commended the troops for their prompt response and gallantry.

He urged residents to continue to provide credible information to support ongoing operations against criminal elements.
