No fewer than 25 residents have been abducted while two others sustained injuries after gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the neighbouring Dabawa community in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, Leadership reports.
The raid, carried out on Sunday night, came barely 24 hours after bandits invaded Yan Kamaye in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area, another border settlement close to Katsina State, where three persons were kidnapped.
Residents told newsmen that the attackers stormed the area late in the night, shooting indiscriminately and causing confusion before whisking away dozens of victims.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson to the Chairman of Shanono LGA, Ammar Wakili, said authorities were still compiling accurate details of the casualties.
“Yes, the attack happened. But we are still trying to verify the full details before issuing an official statement,” Wakili told Leadership.
The repeated attacks have heightened tension across border communities between Kano and Katsina, with residents expressing fears that the violence is advancing deeper into Kano despite ongoing security operations.
Many locals say the frequency of the raids shows that bandits are becoming more daring, raising renewed concerns about the safety of rural settlements.
