The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the ban on carrying passengers on motorcycles in parts of the state, as well as the restriction on commercial tricycles from operating between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily.
This was contained in a statement issued in Kano by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who spoke on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
Kiyawa said the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, would ensure strict compliance with the regulations earlier announced by the state government.
According to him, “the enforcement of the existing ban on the conveyance of passengers on all forms of motorcycles and the restriction of commercial tricycles from operating between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily in the State remain in full force.”
He said the affected areas include Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido area), and Dawakin Kudu (Tamburawa, Gurjiya and Jido Ward).
The police spokesman explained that enforcement teams had been directed to take action against those who violate the order.
“The enforcement team is empowered to effectively profile individuals that flagrantly defy the ban and restriction, and help to curb the spread of unverified and misleading information that could instill fear and confusion among the public,” he said.
He said the measures were introduced to protect lives and property. “These measures are designed to enhance public safety and security across the State. Any person found operating motorcycles or tricycles in contravention of the ban or restriction will be promptly arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
Kiyawa also quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as urging residents to abide by the directives.
“The Commissioner of Police urges all residents to comply with these regulations and extend their cooperation to law enforcement agencies in ensuring peace and order in Kano State,” the statement added.
He encouraged residents to report suspicious activities or violations to the authorities.
Kiyawa further stated that the enforcement effort is being carried out in partnership with the Kano Road and Traffic Agency.
“This security partnership, which also incorporates the services of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA), will take necessary measures to ensure full compliance with these directives for the safety and security of all residents,” he said.
