Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), less than 24 hours to the party’s scheduled governorship primary election.
The development followed a statement on Monday by the Osun State PDP Chairman, Mr Sunday Bisi, who said the party would no longer hold the primary on Tuesday due to a lingering factional crisis. He added that the governor was no longer interested in seeking the party’s nomination.
However, a separate communication from the party’s national secretariat maintained that the primary would still hold on Tuesday at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo.
A letter dated Nov. 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Sagba Ward 2, Ede, later surfaced on Monday, confirming Adeleke’s resignation from the party.
In the letter titled “Resignation of my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” Adeleke attributed his decision to the crisis within the party’s national leadership.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” he stated.
He thanked the party for the platform it provided for his election as Senator representing Osun West and subsequently as Governor of Osun State.
