Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has dismissed a viral online report alleging that he resigned from office because he could not “stand and watch the US and Tinubu government bombing our brothers in the forest.”
Badaru described the report as malicious, false and baseless, saying it did not come from him or anyone authorised to speak on his behalf.
In a statement e-signed by him on Tuesday, the former minister said the publication was fabricated to smear his reputation and create an impression of conflict between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“I wish to state categorically and unequivocally that this publication is entirely false, deliberately mischievous, and did not originate from me or from any authorized representative acting on my behalf,” he said.
He said those behind the report intended to tarnish his image, sow discord between him and the Commander-in-Chief, and create needless distractions from the work of governance.
Badaru added that the genuine reasons for his resignation had already been formally communicated to President Tinubu and made public through conventional and social media platforms.
“Any suggestion of an alternative or inflammatory motive is a complete falsehood engineered by mischief makers,” he said.
The former minister reaffirmed his loyalty to the President, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“I wish to reassure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, and the good people of Nigeria that I remain firmly committed to the peace, security, and stability of our nation,” he said.
He also pledged continued support for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
