Staff of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), on Thursday held special prayer sessions for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Musa, in appreciation of what they described as his sustained commitment to staff welfare and the overall development of the institution.
The sessions, held at the university’s Convocation Arena, brought together hundreds of workers from various unions and religious groups. Many of them said the gesture was to acknowledge the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts toward repositioning staff welfare and strengthening the university’s administrative system.
In a statement issued by the university’s Publicity and Media Unit, the institution said the staff “converged at the Convocation Arena to offer special prayers for the Vice-Chancellor… in recognition of his unwavering commitment to improving staff welfare and advancing the university’s development.”
The prayers also extended to other principal officers, including the Registrar, Malam Haruna Aliyu; the Deputy Vice-Chancellors; the Bursar; and the University Librarian.
Prof. Musa, who addressed the gathering via a phone call, commended the staff for the initiative, describing it as a strong motivation for the administration.
“I am deeply grateful for this show of support,” he was quoted as saying. “My administration will continue to prioritise staff welfare.”
He urged workers to remain committed to their duties, saying collective dedication was necessary to sustain the institution’s progress.
“All staff members should remain committed and diligent. Hard work from everyone is vital to maintaining the university’s steady growth,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor also paid tribute to past administrations, particularly the one led by Prof. Sagir Abbas, noting that his team would consolidate and expand on the achievements recorded.
Prof. Musa added that new initiatives and strategic plans were underway to improve the well-being of both staff and students, reiterating the administration’s commitment to “continuous improvement in service delivery and institutional excellence.”
