The sale of application forms for recruitment into a newly established private Hisbah organisation founded by former Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, commenced on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in Kano.
The exercise was formally launched by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, in the company of a former Kano State Hisbah Commander, Sheikh Harun Ibn Sina.
Addressing attendees at the launch, Ibn Sina, who is leading the initiative known as Independent Hisbah Fisabilillah under the Ganduje Foundation, said the organisation was purely voluntary and not affiliated with the Kano State Government.
According to him, the outfit was established for religious and humanitarian purposes, stressing that it was not intended to rival the state-owned Hisbah board.
“This is not a government agency. It is a voluntary organisation set up solely for the sake of Allah. We are not competing with the government Hisbah,” Ibn Sina said.
He explained that the initiative was designed to create opportunities for about 12,000 individuals who were previously disengaged from the state-run Hisbah.
However, findings by Kano Times reveal that the emergence of the independent Hisbah organisation has generated anxiety among some residents of Kano State, who view the move as a potentially divisive action by the former governor.
