The Kano State Government says it has organised a special prayer session involving 4,444 Qur’anic reciters to seek lasting peace and security across the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, over the weekend.
The statement said the prayer session, held at the Government House, Kano, brought together Qur’anic reciters, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers and government officials to pray against insecurity, particularly the recent banditry incidents in parts of the state.
Recent attacks in Kano’s Northern Senatorial District reportedly led to the abduction of 15 persons and the killing of a woman.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, speaking at the prayer session, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the successful gathering and urged residents and stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to tackle insecurity.
“Banditry does not discriminate between political affiliation, social status or community. We must all unite to confront it,” Yusuf said.
The governor recalled that Kano had historically enjoyed divine protection, adding that his administration would continue to combine prayers with lawful security measures to sustain peace and tranquillity.
He also appealed to residents to offer personal prayers, especially during late night hours, for enduring peace in Kano State and the country.
Yusuf commended security agencies for their sacrifices and assured that collaboration between them and the state government remained “cordial and effective.”
In his remarks, the Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, thanked Almighty Allah for the successful prayer session and called on residents to remain united in supporting government efforts to restore peace.
The Emir praised Yusuf’s recent visit to affected communities alongside security chiefs, describing it as “timely and reassuring.”
