The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has warned party members against creating divisions by ranking some aspirants above others, saying such practices are dangerous to the unity of the party.
Ganduje gave the warning while speaking at a women stakeholders’ meeting, where he stressed the need for discipline, unity and internal cohesion within the APC ahead of future elections.
According to him, classifying aspirants into hierarchies or portraying some as superior to others could weaken the party and fuel unnecessary internal conflicts.
“That is why the chairman is saying we should stop separating candidates or aspirants by claiming one is above the other. This kind of thinking will only bring division in the party,” Ganduje said.
Recalling the last governorship election, the former APC chairman said the contest was hardly competitive, using vivid analogies to explain his point.
“During the election, was there really a contest? It was like comparing an elephant and a rat. When an elephant steps on a rat, what happens? And when a rat climbs on an elephant, it may even think it is giving the elephant a massage,” he said.
Ganduje noted that while aspirants are free to consult, build alliances and mobilise support, the party must prioritise unity when it is time to agree on a consensus candidate.
He stressed that collective decision-making remains key to sustaining the APC’s electoral strength, urging members to put the party’s interest above personal ambitions.
