Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his defection to the Accord Party.
Adeleke made this known in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter, dated Nov. 4, 2025, the governor said his decision to withdraw from the PDP was due to the lingering crisis within the party’s national leadership.
“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter stated.
The governor expressed appreciation to the party for its role in his political career, noting that the PDP provided him the platform to serve as a senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun.
“I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator and as Governor of Osun State under the party,” he said.
Adeleke later announced his new political affiliation on Tuesday evening, unveiling the Accord Party as his new platform.
Kano Times reports that there had been speculations in recent days about the governor’s possible defection to the Accord Party, following reports of consultations with key political stakeholders in the state.
