Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has explained the motivation behind his new book on the administration of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it is intended to both commemorate Buhari’s life and document the defining media and policy moments of his presidency.
The book will be publicly presented on December 17, 2025, to mark the first posthumous birthday of the former President, who died on July 13, 2025, and would have turned 83.
Titled “Headlines & Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration,” the publication chronologically captures key governance decisions, communication strategies and nation-building efforts during Buhari’s eight years in office.
The presentation is scheduled to hold at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, by 10am.
Speaking on the book, Mohammed said: “It will serve both as a commemoration of President Buhari’s life and legacy, and as a reflection on the policies, programmes and values that shaped his tenure.”
According to him, the book documents his stewardship of the Ministry of Information and Culture between 2015 and 2023, with emphasis on information management, cultural development, tourism promotion and national orientation.
“It also provides insight into how major national policies were shaped, defended and communicated at critical moments during the Buhari presidency,” he added.
The event will be chaired by Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Osun State and pioneer Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, is expected to attend as Royal Father of the Day alongside other eminent traditional rulers.
Among those billed to serve as Chief Launchers are prominent businessmen and industrialists, including Sir Dr. Kesington Adebukunola Adebutu, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Alhaji Nasiru Danu, the Sardaunan Dutse, and Aare Kola Oyefeso.
The keynote address will be delivered by Professor Oladapo Afolabi, former Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, on the theme: “Nigeria’s Unfulfilled Global Community Expectations.”
Former presidential spokesman and Chairman, Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspaper, Mr Segun Adeniyi, will review the book.
The Book Launch Committee, in a statement, described the publication as “an insider chronicle of governance and communication during the Buhari era.”
