The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) says it is strengthening its partnership with the Refuse Management and Sanitation Board (REMASAB) to improve community service delivery and hygiene in custodial centres across the state.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Command on Thursday in Kano and signed by MB Umar, ASC II, who is the Assistant Public Relations Officer, for the Controller of Corrections, Kano Command.
According to the statement, the Head of the Non-Custodial Unit, ACC Musa Muhammad Kibiya, paid a working visit to the Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr Muhammad S. Khalil, to explore areas of collaboration.
It said the visit focused on enhancing operational synergy and developing a more effective framework for community service and sanitation activities.
“ACC Kibiya expressed appreciation to the Managing Director for the warm reception accorded to him and his team,” the statement said.
It added that he commended the administration of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf “for its consistent support and contributions to the welfare of all custodial centres in the state.”
Kibiya also called for stronger cooperation between NCoS and REMASAB, especially in implementing community service programmes.
“He further urged members of the judiciary to consider assigning traffic offenders and first-time offenders to REMASAB for non-custodial punishment as part of efforts to decongest custodial facilities and promote restorative justice,” the statement added.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of REMASAB, Dr Khalil, described the visit as a significant step towards achieving cleaner and healthier custodial environments.
“Dr Khalil thanked ACC Kibiya for the visit and pledged the Board’s readiness to support the NCoS whenever required,” it stated.
