Residents of Sheka Sabuwar Gandu area of Kano metropolis were on Sunday thrown into shock following the killing of a pregnant woman and her 18-month-old son by unknown assailants.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday evening when the woman’s husband returned from work at about 8 p.m. and found his house locked from the outside.
It was gathered that the husband forced the door open and discovered the lifeless bodies of his wife and child, who were said to have been attacked and burnt.
A community leader, Ahmad Sani, confirmed the incident, lamenting the absence of security presence in the area.
Sani said that residents had, through communal efforts, constructed a police outpost, but that authorities were yet to deploy personnel to man the facility.
He appealed to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, to urgently deploy officers to the outpost to enhance security and prevent further attacks.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident.
Haruna said the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
