The Nigeria Police Force has announced the resumption of the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, effective January 2, 2026, following a review of emerging security concerns across the country.
In a statement signed by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, the police clarified that the court has not restrained the Force from enforcing the law on tinted vehicle glasses. However, enforcement was previously suspended to allow motorists time to regularise their documentation.
The statement read, “Recent trends reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent crimes.”
According to the Force, the resumption of full enforcement is aimed at proactively safeguarding communities while ensuring compliance with legal requirements. CSP Hundeyin noted that motorists are encouraged to obtain Tinted Glass Permits through approved channels.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reassured Nigerians that the renewed enforcement will be carried out professionally and with respect for citizens’ rights.
“The Force remains committed to promoting public safety and upholding the rule of law while working collaboratively with all stakeholders to keep Nigeria secure,” he said.
