Hope has been rekindled in Makera South, Kaduna State, following the renovation of a Primary Health Care Centre by itel as part of its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The project, carried out under the theme “Light of Hope: Restoring Health and Brightening Lives in Kaduna,” was commissioned on December 13, 2025. It involved the complete renovation of the health facility, including repainting, provision of beds, mattresses, pillows, mosquito nets and bedsheets, as well as the installation of a solar-powered energy system.
The solar installation consists of a 16-kWh battery, a 12-kW inverter and 18 solar panels of 590 watts each, aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply to support medical services at the centre.
Speaking at the commissioning, the ATL Marketing Manager of itel, Mrs Dolapo Oloron-Nimbe, said the initiative was driven by the company’s commitment to improving lives in communities where it operates.
According to her, the project was designed to restore dignity and comfort to patients while supporting healthcare workers, especially during emergencies.
Also speaking, the Marketing Manager of itel Energy, Shirley Shi, said reliable electricity was critical to effective healthcare delivery, noting that the solar system would eliminate power outages that often disrupt medical services.
Similarly, the Public Relations Supervisor of itel said the company remained committed to sustained community interventions, adding that the Makera project was the fourth CSR initiative undertaken by the brand in 2025.
In his reaction, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee, Alhaji Bello Tanko, commended itel for selecting the facility for the intervention. He said the solar installation would greatly improve vaccine storage and healthcare delivery in Kaduna South Local Government Area.
The District Head of Makera, Alhaji Shehu Tijjani, Chiroma Zazzau District, also presented an award of appreciation to itel in recognition of the renovation, donation of medical materials and installation of the solar power system.
It was gathered that earlier in the year, itel executed other CSR projects across the country, including the commissioning of an electric borehole in Kano State, donation of learning materials to schools on Children’s Day, a back-to-school intervention in Lagos, and food and educational support for pupils in Rivers State.
The company said the initiatives reflect its commitment to community development and improving access to basic services across Nigeria.
