The Leader of the Rivers Caucus in the House of Representatives, Rep. Dum Dekor, has received the 2025 Leadership Award in Constituents’ Empowerment.
The award was presented to Dekor by the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), in collaboration with Naijablitznews and Hellosis, at a ceremony held on Wednesday in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Dekor dedicated the award to his constituents and his political leader, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike.
“I dedicate this award to the good people of Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency for their unwavering support, and to my leader, Chief Nyesom Wike, whose mentorship has continued to guide my public service,” Dekor said.
He thanked the organisers for the recognition and assured his constituents of renewed commitment to people-oriented representation.
“I appreciate the confidence reposed in me. This recognition will spur me to do more in empowering my constituents and delivering effective representation,” he added.
In a citation read on behalf of the Director-General of CCLCA, Dr Gabriel Nwambu, the organisers described Dekor as “a well-grounded and people-focused legislator with a consistent record of public service.”
The citation highlighted Dekor’s political journey, noting his service as Supervisor for Works in Khana Local Government Area, Electoral Officer with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, and Commissioner for Works in Rivers State.
It further noted that Dekor, who represents Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency, currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Host Communities.
According to the citation, the lawmaker has facilitated several projects and programmes in his constituency, including rural electrification, provision of potable water, construction and remodelling of schools, establishment of ICT and skill acquisition centres, and installation of solar street lights.
“His interventions also cut across healthcare, education, economic empowerment and community development, with special focus on women and youths,” the citation stated.
The organisers said the award was in recognition of Dekor’s commitment to transparency, integrity and timely feedback in the legislative process, as well as his sustained efforts to improve the welfare of his constituents.
