The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the defection of Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The APC National Chairman, Mr Nentawe Yelwata, made the announcement at the party’s 14th National Caucus Meeting held at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.
Yelwata said the defection of Mutfwang had further strengthened the party’s presence in the North-Central geopolitical zone.
The governor was elected on the platform of the PDP in the 2023 general elections and is the latest high-profile politician to leave the opposition party for the ruling APC.
The APC chairman also announced January 30, 2026, as the deadline for all party members to complete their electronic membership registration.
According to him, the electronic registration exercise, which has commenced nationwide, is aimed at improving transparency, data integrity and internal democracy within the party.
“We have carried out training at the state, zonal and local government levels in most states.
“I urge all stakeholders to support the nationwide rollout of this important initiative,” Yelwata said.
He assured new members of equal rights and privileges in the party and encouraged both old and new members to take advantage of the registration exercise to enlist their supporters.
“All members are expected to complete their registration on the portal before January 30, 2026, in preparation for forthcoming party congresses,” he added.
The meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, principal officers of the National Assembly and former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.
Also present were APC governors, past governors, members of the party’s national leadership and other key stakeholders.
