Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has assured that the prolonged crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be resolved in the coming months, describing the party as “strong, vibrant and ready to deliver.”
Saraki made the remarks on Friday during a PDP youth summit organised by the Kwara State chapter of the party in Ilorin to mark his 63rd birthday.
He acknowledged internal disagreements but noted they were normal in political parties. “Yes, every party will have its own problem. That is normal. But I can assure you that within the next few months, we will resolve our problem in the party. We are going nowhere and you people are going nowhere,” he said.
Saraki revealed that leaders of the party’s factions were already engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address the crisis. “As I am talking with you, the two factions of the PDP are meeting with INEC. That is to tell you that things are beginning to happen. The future is very bright,” he added.
He called on party members, particularly the youth, to remain committed and work hard to reposition the PDP. “I do not have any candidate for any position. Go and deliver those that will represent us. Let us bring them in and work together to make a better Kwara and a better Nigeria,” Saraki said.
Saraki also emphasised collaboration between elders and youths to ensure sustainable growth, noting that nurturing young leaders does not mean abandoning the elders. “The youth are the future. We have to create opportunities. Let us continue to work in harmony,” he stated.
The event included prayers and lectures honouring Saraki’s late father, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki, and highlighted the former Senate President’s commitment to promoting unity and leadership development within the party.
