Two Kano Lawmakers Die Within One Hour

Kano State was thrown into mourning on Wednesday following the sudden death of two members of the State House of Assembly within the space of one hour.

Kano Times reports that the first to die was Hon. Aminu Sa’adu, who represented Ungoggo Local Government Area constituency. He reportedly fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly and was rushed to a hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Barely an hour later, Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, representing Kano Municipal Local Government Area constituency, also passed away.

The death of Daneji was confirmed by the spokesman to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in a post on his official Facebook page.

“Innalillahi Wa Inna Ilaihirrajiun. Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, member representing Kano Municipal at the Kano State House of Assembly, died today, an hour after the death of his counterpart,” he wrote.

Kano Times reports that the deaths of the two lawmakers have sent shockwaves across the state, with colleagues, constituents and political observers expressing grief and offering prayers on social media.

As at the time of filing this report, the Kano State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two lawmakers.
