LFormer Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced that more than 300 PhD holders have been produced through education intervention programmes initiated during his time in office.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Wednesday at the maiden convention of Kwankwasiyya scholars held in Kano, which brought together beneficiaries of local and foreign scholarship schemes under his administrations.
Addressing the gathering, the former governor described the achievement as a major milestone and proof that sustained investment in education yields long-term results.
“What we are celebrating today is the outcome of deliberate and consistent investment in education. Producing over 300 PhD holders is not a coincidence; it is the result of planning and commitment,” Kwankwaso said.
He explained that the scholarship programmes were designed to empower young people from Kano State with quality education and global exposure.
“We believed that if you invest in people, especially through education, you are securing the future. These scholars were trained to compete globally and to contribute meaningfully to the development of society,” he added.
Kwankwaso noted that beneficiaries studied various disciplines, including medicine, engineering, science and technology, agriculture, education, economics and the social sciences, in Nigerian universities and institutions across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
According to him, many of the scholars have gone on to distinguish themselves as lecturers, researchers, doctors, engineers and policy experts.
“Your certificates are not just for personal achievement. You are products of public investment, and your knowledge must be used to solve societal problems,” he told the scholars.
The former governor also reiterated his stance that education remains the most effective tool for combating poverty, ignorance and underdevelopment, particularly in northern Nigeria.
