The Kano State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and cattle rustlers in intelligence-led operations in Kiru and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas of the state.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Kano.
Kiyawa said the arrests were carried out on Dec. 14, 2025, by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical units, following credible intelligence.
He explained that four suspects were arrested at Rahma Round in Kiru LGA after the area was cordoned off by police operatives.
According to him, one of the suspects, Shafiu Ibrahim, 25, from Auchanawa Village in Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State, confessed to being a member of a kidnapping gang and participating in several cattle rustling operations.
The spokesman added that a TVS motorcycle was recovered from the suspect, while the three others arrested at the same location were undergoing investigation for various criminal offences.
In a related operation, Kiyawa said a joint team comprising the Dragon Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Tsanyawa Police Division arrested one Bishir Umar, 24, of Karaduwa Local Government Area of Katsina State, at Mahuta Village in Tsanyawa LGA.
He stated that Umar confessed that he and his accomplices entered Kano State on two motorcycles with a rifle to engage in criminal activities.
“He was arrested while on surveillance, while the other suspects escaped with the motorcycles and the rifle,” Kiyawa said.
The police spokesman said all the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Commending members of the public for their cooperation, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged residents to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
Bakori encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers.
