Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers announced their defection through separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, citing internal crises within the PDP and what they described as poor management of the legislative arm as reasons for their decision.
In the letters, the lawmakers said the lingering and unresolved leadership crisis in the PDP, which had led to factionalisation, made it difficult for them to continue in the party.
They also accused the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal of poor leadership, alleging negligence in addressing security challenges in the state and failure to fulfil campaign promises.
According to them, their decision was taken in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The defecting lawmakers are Muktar Nasir Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi Maru (Maru North), Amiru Ahmad Keta (Tsafe West), Bashar Aliyu Gummi (Gummi I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North) and Bashir Bello (Bungudu West).
They expressed optimism that their defection to the APC would promote justice, fairness, unity and inclusiveness, and enable them to better serve their constituents while contributing to the development of Zamfara State.
