The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau I. Jibrin, has earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Corporate Entrepreneurship from Maryam Abacha American University, Niger Republic.
This was contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ismail Mudashir, and posted on his Facebook page.
According to the statement, Barau, who is also the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, successfully defended his doctoral thesis on Dec. 22, 2025.
The dissertation is titled “Entrepreneurial Orientation and Financial Performance of SMEs: The Moderating Role of Environment.”
Mudashir said the achievement marked another milestone in the academic and public service career of the Deputy President of the Senate.
He congratulated Barau on the successful completion of the programme, describing it as a reflection of his commitment to knowledge and capacity building.
“Despite his tight and demanding schedule, Senator Barau successfully balanced the weighty responsibilities of legislative service with his academic pursuits, a testament to his dedication and resilience,” the statement said.
The aide noted that the PhD adds to Barau’s profile as a lawmaker with a strong interest in education, entrepreneurship and national development.
Barau represents Kano North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
