An early morning explosion on Tuesday rattled the General Hospital in Bagudo, Kebbi State, causing panic among residents and hospital staff.
The blast reportedly affected part of the hospital’s staff quarters, the Kebbi State Police Command confirmed.
Spokesperson SP Bashir Usman said security operatives responded swiftly and that no casualties were recorded.
In a statement obtained by Kano Times, Usman said the area had been secured to prevent further threats, while a joint team of police, military personnel, and vigilante operatives cordoned off the scene.
“The Kebbi State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that we have full control of the security situation following the explosion at the General Hospital, Bagudo,” he said.
He added that specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit had been deployed to assess the blast site as part of an ongoing investigation.
“We are grateful to confirm that there were no casualties. Although a building within the staff quarters was damaged, the occupants had already evacuated safely,” Usman noted.
The police also stated that the state Commissioner of Police has ordered additional tactical deployments to maintain order and restore confidence in the community.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to determine the source of the explosion and have warned residents to stay away from the hospital’s immediate vicinity to avoid interfering with security operations.
