NNPP Dissolves Kano State Executive Ahead of Governor Yusuf’s APC Move

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dissolved the party’s executive committees in Kano State at the state, local government and ward levels.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Oladipo Johnson, announced this in a statement issued on Friday.

Johnson said the NWC took the decision after an emergency meeting and in line with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

“The National Working Committee of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, after an emergency meeting, has, in accordance with the constitution of the party, announced the dissolution of its Executive Committees at the State, Local Government and Ward levels in Kano State,” he said.

He added that the NWC had resolved to set up caretaker committees to manage the affairs of the party in the state pending further directives.

“In line with the provisions of the party’s constitution, the NWC resolved to appoint Caretaker Committees to act in the interim. Further instructions will be announced in due course,” Johnson said.

The NNPP spokesman also expressed appreciation to the dissolved executives for their services to the party.

“The NWC accordingly thanked all those who held positions at the State, Local Government and Ward structures of the party in Kano State and assured them of the party’s appreciation for their invaluable contributions,” he said.

The development comes amid a political rift involving the NNPP National Leader and former Kano State Governor, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf.

Yusuf is reportedly on the verge of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move said to be strongly opposed by Kwankwaso.

The Kano State chapter of the APC has also confirmed that the governor is expected to join the party in the coming days.
