Yusuf’s Birthday: Tinubu Says Kano Gov. Reflects Progressive Politics of North

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on his 63rd birthday, describing him as a leader of integrity, modesty and humility.

The President’s message was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu said Yusuf’s dedication to public service was evident in the manner he administers Kano State, noting that his leadership reflects the ideals of progressive politics in northern Nigeria.

Yusuf, who was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport between 2011 and 2015 under the administration of Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

According to the President, the Kano administration represents “the bastion of progressive politics in the North,” with a renewed focus on grassroots development and the welfare of the talakawa, as championed by the late Malam Aminu Kano.

Tinubu said Yusuf’s years of experience in managing strategic portfolios in the state may have prepared him for the infrastructural developments currently being witnessed in Kano.

He said the governor had embarked on massive urban renewal projects, including the construction of bridges and road networks across the state.

“He has initiated urban renewal programmes, building bridges and road networks, including five-kilometre roads in each local government area,” the President said.

Tinubu also commended Yusuf for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector, noting that the move was already producing positive results.

“I understand that the declaration of a state of emergency in education has led to improved performance of Kano students in NECO examinations,” he said.
