The newly established Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Misau, in Bauchi State has on Tuesday held end of year lecture and staff award with a renewed commitment to quality healthcare delivery, as stakeholders highlighted staff dedication, patriotism and strategic investments as key drivers of the hospital’s rapid growth.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the conference hall of the institution, the Medical Director of FMC Misau, Dr. Rufa’i Abdu Dachi, described the occasion as both a moment of gratitude and deep reflection on the journey so far.
Dr. Dachi, who is the pioneer MD, said the journey is full of tremendous sacrifices by the staff and management of the hospital which account for the successes recorded.
“This is an opportunity to recognize the tremendous efforts and sacrifices of our staff in building this young facility from scratch”.
“It is also a time to reflect on our achievements and clearly chart the way forward for better service delivery to our people”, he said.
Dr. Dachi called for renewed patriotism and unity among staff, stressing that the progress recorded was the result of collective sacrifice, adding that sustaining and improving on these gains requires “all hands to be on deck” to meet the growing healthcare needs of communities across Misau and its environs.
Among the landmark achievements highlighted by the Medical Director was immediate takeoff of clinical services, the acquisition of three dialysis machines, which have significantly improved care for patients with kidney-related conditions and the establishment of the Mama Yelwa College of Health Sciences, which currently has over 700 students enrolled in basic nursing and basic midwifery programmes, thus positioning the institution as one of the most outstanding colleges of its category.
In line with transparency and accountability, he said FMC Misau had established SERVICOM and an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, designed to enhance service delivery, check sharp practices and encourage optimal staff performance.
Dr. Dachi paid glowing tribute to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, describing his leadership and support as instrumental to what FMC Misau has become today while commending the efforts of sister institutions such as Federal University of Health Sciences Azare FUHSA, Federal Teaching Hospital Azare, ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi and the Emir of Misau for his fatherly advices.
In their separate speeches, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare, Prof. Muhammed Alkali, the Director Admin, Federal Teaching Hospital Azare, Malam Mohammed Kari, underscored the fundamentals of building a functional health institution.
According to them, “service delivery and staff dedication are paramount in making a better hospital, while infrastructure and staff motivation remain key drivers of success.”
During the ceremony, some staff were awarded based on their outstanding performances which include Dr. Isma’il Tiamiyu from Obstetrics and Gynecology as Overall Senior Staff (Clinical), Adamu Lamara from Works and Maintenance Department as Overall Senior Staff (Non-Clinical), Sumayya Auwal Kasim of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Overall Junior Staff (Clinical) while Abdullahi Umar from Works and Maintenance department emerged as Overall Junior Staff (Non-Clinical). Others were the first ten pioneer management staff of the hospital.
