Several political office holders serving in the Kano State Government have individually reaffirmed their loyalty to Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), distancing themselves from the reported move by Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The individuals, who currently hold positions in the Yusuf-led administration, include commissioners, special advisers, heads of government agencies, and legislators.
Those who have reaffirmed their loyalty include the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata; Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya; Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Kwankwaso; and Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd.), according to Arewa Updates.
Others are the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Hamza Kachako; Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa; Executive Secretary of the Kano Scholarship Board, Musa Gambo Danzaki; Managing Director of Kano Zoo, Sadiq Muhammad Kura; and Managing Director of Kwari Market, Hamisu Dogonnama.
Also listed are some members of the National Assembly, including Sani Adamu Wakili (Minjibir/Ungogo), Abdulhakim Kamil Ado (Wudil/Garko), Datti Yusuf Kura (Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam), Engr. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado), and Muntari Yarima (Tarauni).
Other individuals who have expressed loyalty to Kwankwaso include Hon. M.B. Aliyu of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly; President of Kwankwasiyya Scholars, Dr. Mansur Hassan; Director-General of the Kano State Social Protection Agency (KASPA), Hajiya Fatima Amneef; and Chairman of the Kano State Community Re-orientation Council (CRC), Hon. Shakoor Yassar.
Special advisers and aides who have also reaffirmed their allegiance include Sunusi Surajo Kwankwaso, Political Adviser; Aisha Muhammad Idris, Adviser on Food Security; Sadiya Abdu Bichi, Adviser on Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities; Abdullahi Namama, Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental Affairs; and Hamza Ahmad Telan Mata, Personal Assistant on Photography in the Deputy Governor’s Office.
Meanwhile, Kano Times reports that Gov. Yusuf has secured the backing of a majority of elected officials, party executives, and key support groups in the state ahead of his planned defection to the APC.
According to the report, the governor’s proposed exit from the NNPP is expected to end his long-standing political alliance with Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the national leader of the party.
The development has continued to generate political reactions within the state, particularly among NNPP loyalists and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
