The Kano State Hospital Management Board has continued to post remarkable achievements under the leadership of Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, driven by the clear vision and strong political will of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf FNISE , in transforming healthcare delivery and strengthen secondary health services across Kano State.
One of the most significant milestones recorded by the Board is the reinstatement of 926 health workers back onto the state payroll with full CONHESS allowances.
This bold intervention corrected longstanding injustices, restored confidence within the workforce, and significantly boosted staff morale across state-owned hospitals.
In a sustained effort to address critical manpower shortages, the Board facilitated the employment of 250 medical doctors alongside 155 community health extension workers, nurses, and midwives.
This strategic recruitment has reinforced frontline service delivery and expanded access to quality healthcare, particularly in high-demand facilities.
The release and deployment of 65 residency doctors to secondary health facilities has further strengthened specialized care and improved clinical outcomes.
This development has enhanced the capacity of hospitals to manage complex medical cases while supporting the training pipeline of young medical professionals.
Capacity building remains a priority of the present administration.
Regular training and retraining programmes have been implemented across all cadres of health workers, ensuring improved professional competence, efficiency, and alignment with modern healthcare standards.
To guarantee safety and orderliness within hospital environments, the Board recruited and trained 250 security guards.
This initiative has contributed to safer, more disciplined, and patient-friendly healthcare facilities across the state.
In a historic stride for medical education, postgraduate programmes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Ear, Nose and Throat, and Family Medicine have received full accreditation.
This achievement positions Kano State as a key centre for postgraduate medical training in northern Nigeria.
The Board has also sponsored doctors for postgraduate and master’s degree programmes in various medical specialties, reflecting the administration’s commitment to human capital development and long-term sustainability of the health sector.
Ongoing screening of both clinical and non-clinical staff for permanent and pensionable appointments has ensured workforce stability, improved staff commitment, and strengthened institutional continuity within the hospital system.
Transparency and sustainability in drug management have been enhanced through the recovery and stabilization of the Drug Revolving Fund, guaranteeing steady availability of essential medicines in state-owned health facilities.
Infrastructure renewal has received renewed attention, with the renovation and rehabilitation of over twenty secondary health facilities across Kano State.
These interventions have improved service delivery, patient comfort, and overall hospital functionality.
To tackle persistent power challenges, hospitals have been solarized to ensure reliable electricity supply, a development that has greatly enhanced patient care, particularly in emergency and critical units.
The Board has also equipped hospitals with modern medica technologies, bringing healthcare delivery closer to global standards and improving diagnostic and treatment efficiency.
Maternal and emergency healthcare services have been strengthened through the monthly provision of free maternity and accident and emergency commodities.
Thousands of women benefit from free normal deliveries and Caesarean sections, contributing significantly to the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality.
A major social intervention is the construction of the Abba Care Centre, a free service facility dedicated to sickle cell patients.
As the first of its kind in the region, the centre underscores the administration’s commitment to compassionate and inclusive healthcare.
Free paediatric services and medications are being provided at Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital and Marmara Maternity Hospital, easing the financial burden on families and improving child and maternal health outcomes.
Infection prevention and control measures have been strengthened through the monthly supply of cleaning and hygiene materials to all Kano State Hospital Management Board facilities, ensuring safer hospital environments.
Administrative efficiency has also been enhanced with the quarterly provision of hospital stationery valued at ₦93 million, ensuring smooth operations and effective service coordination.
Undoubtedly, these achievements clearly demonstrate Governor Abba Kabir Yusufs unwavering commitment to healthcare reform, staff welfare, and improved service delivery. Signalling that the Kano State Government remains resolute in sustaining these gains and deepening reforms to guarantee accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for all residents of the state.
