The Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) has stepped up efforts to curb violations of approved building plans, stressing that strict enforcement of planning regulations is essential for sustainable urban development and public safety across the State.
The authority said stronger legal and administrative measures are being pursued to address persistent infractions that undermine orderly development in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of KNUPDA, Bahijja Malam Kabara.
According to the statement, the Managing Director of the authority, Arc. Hauwa Hassan Tudun Wada, emphasised the importance of effective enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance with building regulations.
“She urged officers to strengthen legal and administrative processes in tackling violations of approved building plans,” the statement said.
It added that the managing director noted that proper enforcement of planning laws was critical to achieving sustainable urban growth and safeguarding public safety in Kano State.
The statement further reaffirmed KNUPDA’s commitment to continuous capacity-building programmes aimed at strengthening institutional effectiveness and promoting compliance with urban planning regulations across the state.
As part of these efforts, the authority organised a sensitisation workshop to enhance enforcement mechanisms and improve adherence to building regulations.
The workshop, themed “Effective Investigation and Prosecution of Violators of Building Plan Approval (B.P.A)”, was held on Monday in Kano.
The programme was organised through the authority’s Legal Department under the leadership of Tudun Wada, as part of initiatives to promote orderly urban development and strict adherence to planning laws.
The statement disclosed that three technical papers were presented by Shuaibu Sule, Esq., and Barrister Mutawakkil, focusing on investigative procedures, legal frameworks and prosecution strategies related to building plan approval violations.
“The presentations generated meaningful discussions and practical engagement among participants,” it said.
Speaking at the event, the Director of Urban Planning, Tpl. Mansur, expressed satisfaction with the quality of the workshop, commending the Legal Department and the management of KNUPDA for organising the programme.
He noted that the sensitisation workshop would “significantly enhance operational efficiency and interdepartmental collaboration within the authority.”
