The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, has renovated its students’ hostels and upgraded its health facility to enhance campus life and academic standards.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tukur Musa-Yakasai, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection tour of male and female hostels and other key facilities within the institution.
He said, “The renovation of the female hostels was completed in 2025 through a direct labour approach coordinated by the Dean of Students’ Affairs. The same strategy has now been extended to the male hostels.”
Prof. Musa-Yakasai explained that the hostel projects were funded through modest contributions from the students, adding, “The management ensured judicious utilisation of the funds to deliver visible improvements in students’ living conditions.”
On the university’s health services, he said, “Our health facility has been upgraded to the status of a general hospital to provide better medical care to students, staff, and the host community. A renowned Medical Consultant has been appointed to oversee the affairs of the facility to ensure efficient and quality healthcare delivery.”
The vice-chancellor also highlighted ADUSTECH’s affordability, saying, “We remain one of the most affordable universities in Nigeria offering science and technology-based programmes, reaffirming our commitment to accessible and quality education.”
On security, he added, “Regular patrols within the campus have significantly reduced security challenges by more than 90 per cent.”
He also commended the university’s achievements in sports, describing them as “a boost to the institution’s image and integrity.”
Speaking during the tour, the Pro-Chancellor, retired Justice Abdu Aboki, said, “I commend the management and the deanery for adopting the direct labour initiative in renovating the hostels. The upgrading of facilities will create a more conducive learning environment and enhance the attainment of quality academic standards.”
Aboki described ADUSTECH as “one of the cheapest universities in the country” and appealed to the state government to “consider allowing a review of school fees to enable the institution to meet its growing demands and generate funds.”
He also urged the university to intensify internal revenue generation, noting, “Initiatives such as bottled water production and fish farming, which would soon be commercialised, could support sustainable development.”
Earlier, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Abdulkadir Muhammad-Dambazau, said, “The university currently has over 18,000 students. Under ideal conditions, the available hostel facilities can only accommodate about 5,000 students, leading to the allocation of up to eight students per room.”
He added, “Students are charged N15,000 per bed space, with an optional N5,000 for mattresses. These funds are used for renovation, provision of water and electricity, daily cleaning services, and general hostel maintenance.”
Muhammad-Dambazau appealed to stakeholders and the state government to “support the construction of additional hostel facilities to ease accommodation pressure.”
The inspection tour covered the renovated hostels, the upgraded university health facility now operating as a general hospital, and other key infrastructure.
Meanwhile, ADUSTECH recently participated in the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) and Nigerian University Staff Games competitions, where its athletes won gold, silver, and bronze medals, particularly in weightlifting.
“The medal winners were presented with cash rewards ranging from N100,000 to N300,000 alongside their medals,” NAN reports.
