Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has expelled 60 students from different departments for engaging in examination malpractice, the institution has confirmed.
The decision was reached at the university’s 43rd statutory Senate meeting held on January 7, 2026, following a thorough review of reports and recommendations submitted by relevant academic and disciplinary committees.
The expulsion was announced in the university’s official Weekly Bulletin published on Friday, where management said the affected students were found guilty of violating the institution’s examination rules and regulations.
“After reviewing the cases, the Senate approved the expulsion of the students in accordance with the university’s examination regulations,” the statement, sighted on Saturday, read.
The newsletter further stated that the Senate carefully examined each case before approving the expulsions in line with existing regulations.
BUK reiterated “its zero-tolerance policy on examination misconduct,” stressing that “strict sanctions would continue to be enforced to deter future violations.”
The university warned that any form of examination malpractice would attract severe consequences, regardless of a student’s status or department, while reaffirming its resolve to maintain academic integrity and discipline across the institution.
Recall that in April 2025, BUK expelled 62 students and rusticated 17 others over examination misconduct. The decision was adopted by the university Senate at its 42nd meeting held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
