Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has raised an alarm over a fake Facebook account operating in the name of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa.
In a public disclaimer issued by the university management, BUK said the account does not belong to the Vice-Chancellor and is being used to misinform and potentially defraud members of the public.
The university warned that the fake account was making false claims relating to recruitment exercises.
“The said account does not belong to the Vice-Chancellor and is being used to misinform and potentially defraud members of the public, particularly with false claims relating to recruitment exercises,” the disclaimer stated.
The university urged members of the public to note that the Vice-Chancellor does not conduct official university business or recruitment through personal social media messages.
“The Vice-Chancellor does not conduct official university business or recruitment through personal social media messages,” the statement said.
BUK also clarified that its recruitment process has already been concluded and that no further recruitment is ongoing.
“The University’s recruitment process has already been concluded, and no further recruitment is ongoing,” the disclaimer added.
It further stated that any communication on recruitment or official university matters is only issued through the university’s verified and official channels.

The university strongly advised the public to disregard messages, requests or information from such fake accounts, and warned against engaging or making payments to individuals claiming to act on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor or the university.
“Members of the public are hereby informed … to disregard any messages, requests, or information coming from such fake accounts and to avoid engaging or making any payments to individuals claiming to act on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor or the University,” the statement said.
BUK also said it would not be held responsible for any loss arising from interactions with fraudulent platforms or individuals.
“Bayero University Kano will not be held responsible for any loss arising from interactions with fraudulent platforms or individuals,” the disclaimer stated.
