The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, has reacted to the arrest of suspects linked to the killing of a woman and her children in Dorayi, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State.
NAWOJ, in a statement signed by its Assistant Secretary, Comrade Aisha Muhammad Yalleman, acknowledged the role of the Kano State Government and the Nigeria Police Force in the arrest of the suspects.
The association noted that the action taken by security agencies followed the incident, which it described as a gruesome murder that shocked residents of the area.
According to the statement, “NAWOJ Kano State Chapter commends His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State, and the Nigeria Police Force for their swift and decisive action in apprehending the suspects involved in the gruesome murder of a woman and her children in Dorayi.”
NAWOJ said the response by the police helped to calm public tension and address concerns over security in the state.
“The prompt response has helped to reassure the public and restore confidence in the security architecture of the state,” the statement added.
The association also expressed sympathy with the family of the victims, describing the loss as painful and irreparable.
“NAWOJ deeply sympathizes with the bereaved family over this painful and irreparable loss and extends condolences to the government and people of Kano State,” Yalleman said.
The group further called for attention to mental health issues within families and communities, warning that some challenges often go unnoticed until tragic outcomes occur.
“Families and communities must be more vigilant, as some individuals may be battling mental health challenges such as depression and related conditions, often unnoticed by family members or society,” the statement read.
NAWOJ stressed the need for justice in the case, saying those responsible should be made to face the law.
“The association strongly calls for justice to take its full course, to serve as a deterrent to others and to reaffirm the rule of law,” it said.
NAWOJ also reiterated its position on the protection of women and children, stating that it would continue to advocate for their safety and for improved security in the society.
