Rano LG Secretary resigns NNPP over internal crisis

The Secretary of Rano Local Government Area of Kano State, Dr. Ismail Yusuf Musa, has resigned his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing persistent internal crises within the party’s national leadership.

Musa announced his decision in a statement made available to journalists on Friday in Rano.

According to him, the move followed unresolved internal conflicts rocking the NNPP at the national level.

“I, Dr. Ismail Yusuf Musa, Secretary Rano Local Government Kano State, hereby announce my membership resignation from the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP),” he said.

He explained that the development left him with no option but to disengage from the party.

“My decision is borne out of the ongoing internal party crisis besetting the NNPP national leadership structure. Hence, I have no option but to quit my membership of the party,” Musa stated.

The former NNPP chieftain also expressed appreciation to the party leadership and members for the support he received during his time in the party.

“I am grateful to the NNPP leadership at all levels, all relevant stakeholders, and party loyalists for the opportunity given to me by the party,” he added.

Musa’s resignation is the latest in a wave of defections by political office holders and party stakeholders in Kano State amid deepening internal disagreements within the NNPP.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had on Friday also tendered his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party, a development widely seen as confirming his determination to realign with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Governor Yusuf is reportedly leaving the NNPP alongside 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ismail Falgore.

Also, eight out of the 21 federal lawmakers from the state and 44 council chairmen have dumped the NNPP, joining Governor Yusuf in his new political move to the APC.
