Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has said the country is no longer treating food security as a purely agricultural matter, but as a major issue tied to the economy, national security and governance.
Shettima made the remark while speaking on a high-level panel titled “When Food Becomes Security” at the 56th World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
He explained that the Federal Government has begun a multi-dimensional agricultural drive aimed at protecting the country from global supply shocks and restoring productivity across Nigeria’s key food-producing regions.
The vice president added that the plan is designed to strengthen national stability and promote regional cohesion, noting that food security is now central to Nigeria’s broader national development strategy.
