The Kano State House of Assembly on Saturday released the names of lawmakers who defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in solidarity with the state governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the Assembly said the lawmakers resigned from the NNPP to support the governor’s administration and are awaiting further directives.
The statement said the lawmakers “endorsed the Executive Governor’s move by resigning from the NNPP and are awaiting further directives.”
It added that a total of 22 members of the House were directly involved in the defection.
The list of defecting lawmakers includes the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore (Rogo), and the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu (Tofa/Rimin Gado).
Others are the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussain (Dala); Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya); Chief Whip, Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso); and Majority Whip, Hon. Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Gabasawa).
The statement further named Hon. Lawal Tini (Ajingi), Hon. Musa Tahir Haruna (Albasu), Hon. Ali Lawan Alhassan (Bagwai/Shanono), Hon. Ali Muhammad Tiga (Bebeji), and Hon. Hafiz Gambo (Bunkure) among those who defected.
It also listed Hon. Rabiu Shuaibu (Dawakin Kudu), Hon. Tukur Mohammed (Fagge), Hon. Murtala Muhammad Kadage (Garko), Hon. Abdulmajid Isah Umar (Gwale), and Hon. Engr. Ahmad Ibrahim (Karaye).
Others include Hon. Alhassan Zakari (Kura/Garun Malam), Hon. Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq (Madobi), Hon. Abdulhamid Abdul (Minjibir), Hon. Muhammad Ibrahim (Rano), Hon. Kabiru Sule Dahiru (Tarauni), and Hon. Ali Abdullahi Manager (Wudil).
The Assembly said the lawmakers defected “in solidarity with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf,” and reaffirmed their “unwavering commitment and loyalty to his administration.”
It added that the lawmakers were “awaiting further directives” following their resignation from the NNPP.
The development comes amid growing political realignments in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
