The Federal Government has inaugurated the construction of a key road at the Economic City, Bichi Phases I and II, in Kano State, as part of its Special Intervention Projects aimed at boosting economic activities across the country.
The Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, who commissioned the project in Bichi Local Government Area, said the road was part of the Federal Government’s emergency and special intervention projects.
Umahi, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement, Abdullahi Tanko-Yakasai, described the road as critical to the development of the Economic City.
He said, “This road is vital to the development of the Economic City in Bichi. Such infrastructure is essential for attracting investment and enhancing economic growth.”
The minister further noted that the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, had embarked on 260 special intervention projects nationwide.
He added, “The North-West zone, comprising Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna states, has benefited from 48 of the projects, the highest across the six geopolitical zones.”
“We must commend President Bola Tinubu for these interventions, particularly in the North-West,” he said.
“In Kano, we are also witnessing major projects such as the dualisation of the Kano–Katsina Road,” he added.
Also speaking, the Controller of Works in Kano State, Mr. Abdulsalam Dayyabu, explained that the project comprises two phases, with each phase covering a cumulative distance of 1.5 kilometres.
He said, “The scope of work includes construction on lateritic, soft and stone bases, binder and wearing courses, as well as drainage structures with reinforced concrete lined drains.”
Dayyabu also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to quality assurance and adherence to specifications, stressing that the projects would be delivered to meet international standards.
He said, “The projects will be delivered to meet international standards and serve the people for decades.”
Meanwhile, the Minister also inspected the ongoing construction of the Kano Northern Bypass, a 37.8-kilometre project featuring 10 bridges.
He further inspected the completion of outstanding sections of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Road, covering 40.5 kilometres of dual carriageway.
Umahi said, “Upon completion, the Kano Northern Bypass will stimulate development and economic prosperity in the area.”
He added, “It will ease access for traders and business operators entering Kano.”
The Project’s Site Engineer, Mr. Abba Muntari-Bello, said the bypass would start from Danzaki along the Kano–Hadeja Road and connect to the Kano–Katsina Road around Kudawa town.
He said, “The project is about 9 kilometres from both the Kano–Hadeja and Kano–Katsina roads.”
He added, “The project has so far achieved 6.8 per cent completion.”
