Kano State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered large quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa in separate operations across the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, saying the operations were part of sustained intelligence-led visibility patrols, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“The Kano State Police Command has made significant breakthroughs in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the State,” the statement said.
According to the police, on Sunday at about 3:00 pm, officers attached to the Fagge Police Division, while on surveillance patrol at Triumph Roundabout, intercepted a tricycle carrying two sacks.
“When search was conducted, 157 parcels of dry leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa were recovered. Two suspects, Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both male and residents of Kulliya Village, Bunkure LGA, Kano, were arrested,” the statement added.
In another operation on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 pm, the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) conducted a raid at identified black spots across Kano metropolis.
“This operation led to the arrest of Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25, in possession of 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solutions, half a roll of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, and 10 small bottles of ‘Suck and Die’,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved and urged the public to remain vigilant.
“The Kano State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse in the State and assures the public of its continued efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all,” the statement concluded.
